Support for our members to meet online |
What if you were stuck indoors for 12 weeks of isolation, perhaps without fully understanding why? You have little or no contact with other people. You are unable to get the things you need and aren’t aware of local offers of support. How would you feel?
Under normal circumstances, adults with learning difficulties are more likely to be socially isolated and less active than other adults. This leads to depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. They are less able to understand government-issued information and are more likely to have existing health conditions. They are more vulnerable to exploitation.
Bath Gateway Out & About supports adults with learning difficulties by overcoming the barriers they face to social interaction and by providing the activities that you and I often take for granted. We do this through long-term membership of our weekly clubs. Our members make friends, build their confidence and increase their self-esteem.
Our members need us now, more than ever, and we need you.
We will bring our members’ favourite activities into each of their homes through virtual get-togethers. We will monitor their wellbeing whilst keeping them connected to their friends. We will ensure that they access all the support available to them and give their carers respite at a very difficult time.
Imagine cinema trips, meals out, cooking workshops, exercise sessions and pub quizzes from the safety of your own home. Only half of our members are ready to get started, so to ensure they can all take part we have work to do.
We urgently need:
What can you do?
Funding contributions of any value or donations of the equipment we need will get us closer towards supporting every member.
Our usual fundraising routes are not available to us at a time when adults with learning difficulties are particularly vulnerable. We ask you to help us to help them. Please get in touch with Becky Morgan, Development Officer, for more information using the Contact button link below or make a donation via our Virgin Money Giving campaign page using the Donate button below.

We urgently need:
- 20 wifi-enabled laptops for members who don’t have access to one already
- 12 weeks pay-as-you-go mobile dongles for those 20 members
- 12 weeks of activity kits for 12 members who aren’t able to join us online; arts and crafts are popular - particularly making gifts for friends; helping those who can’t get online to stay in touch with each other

Feedback from our online meetings so far
We have started running remote club meetings since near the start of April - however a significant number of the club members are still unable to take part and meet their friends, and they urgently need your support to get online.
Below you can see some of the the comments we have had from parents/carers and members, and the positive effect it has had for our members, many of whom had previously become overwhelmed by the current Coronavirus crisis, feeling lonely and depressed.

Thanks so much for your support!
